President Joe Biden may have a new press secretary in a year’s time.
White House press secretary Jen Psaki, who has been with the Biden administration since the president took office in January, explained on The Axe Files podcast with David Axelrod why she likely won’t stick around after talking to the transition team about a roughly one-year term.
“I think it’s going to be time for somebody else to have this job in a year from now or about a year from now,” she said in the interview published on Thursday. “And I have little kids, and I don’t want to miss time with them.”

Psaki has a long resume working in communications during the Obama administration, both in the White House and State Department. She was a political commentator on CNN during the Trump administration.
In her current role, Psaki said she has had to find unique ways to spend time with her young children.
“I mean, I wake up in the fives, as I like to say,” she said, adding that “my 5-year-old and now-3-year-old hear me moving around and are immediately up because they know that’s the time we have together. And at first, I would say, ‘Go back to sleep. You need more sleep.’ But now I realize that you don’t have to define what time of day needs to be the quality time.”
Psaki said her children sit with her while she gets ready for work and help her put on dresses and jewelry.
Throughout the interview, Psaki also shared insights into her experience acting as the messenger between the press and the president.

Psaki said having the president spontaneously field questions from reporters is “not something we recommend,” adding, “In fact, a lot of times we say ‘Don’t take questions,’ you know, but he’s going to do what he wants to do because he’s the president.”
“We’re never going to satisfy the White House and their desires for access,” she added. “And I think there have been mistakes made in the past of trying to do that.”
