Sen. Bill Nelson, D-Fla., praised the Trump administration and the rest of the federal government Sunday for ‘seamless’ preparations for Hurricane Irma, as the storm continues its assault on Florida.
“It’s been very good,” Nelson said on CBS’s “Face the Nation.” “And there is the cooperation between the federal level, the state, and the locals. That has been seamless cooperation, unlike 25 years ago in Hurricane Andrew, when you did not have that cooperation.”

Hurricane Andrew devastated much of Florida and the Bahamas as a Category 5 surge and was the costliest storm to make landfall in the U.S. until it was surpassed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
Nelson said inter-governmental collaboration has also been distinct from that seen in the lead-up to Katrina.
“You didn’t have the communication and cooperation between the Louisiana National Guard and the U.S. military,” he said. “That has been taken care of now [in Florida].”
