Fox News host Tucker Carlson said it was “nobody’s business” who fellow Fox News host Sean Hannity hired as a lawyer, after it was unveiled Hannity was a previously undisclosed client of President Trump’s personal lawyer Michael Cohen.
“Keep in mind, Sean Hannity is a talk show host. He’s not under investigation by anyone for anything. Who he hires as a lawyer and why is nobody’s business,” Carlson said Monday night. “No judge has a right to violate his privacy or anybody else’s. Those used to be the rules, but the rules have changed.”
The comments come after U.S. District Judge Kimba Wood demanded Cohen name an unidentified client of his — who turned out to be Hannity.
Hannity has denied Cohen represented him, although he admitted he went to Cohen for advice at times and confessed he “may have” given Cohen $10 because he wanted “privilege to cover me about this conversation.”
“I’ve known Michael a long, long time. Let me be clear to the media: Michael never represented me in any matter. I never retained him in a traditional sense. I never received an invoice from Michael, I never paid legal fees to Michael,” Hannity said Monday afternoon.
Last Monday, the home and office of Cohen were raided — a move that was reportedly approved by Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein, who is overseeing special counsel Robert Mueller’s Russia investigation.
Additionally, it was reported Friday Cohen has been investigated for months in a criminal probe looking at his “personal business dealings.”
Mueller is looking into Russian interference in the 2016 election and if the Trump campaign colluded with the Kremlin.
