Actress Mandy Moore raved about 2020 presidential candidate Pete Buttigieg and his presidential campaign, saying she thinks he will “get the job done” as president.
“He’s a veteran, he’s brilliant, he’s a Rhodes scholar, he speaks seven languages. He’s compassionate, he’s authentic, he’s a real human,” the Tangled star said. “I feel like that’s a quality that’s often overlooked in a presidential candidate. I talked about this on stage, but he’s someone who obviously has incredible policy ideas, but they’re never ideas that feel unattainable. Feels like — it feels like he’s speaking directly to you, and you know he’s going to get the job done.”
Moore, 35, announced last week that she would be joining Buttigieg in Iowa on the campaign trail. The actress said she loves the candidate’s “message of unity.”
She said she felt obligated to support the mayor despite potential backlash from fans. “I don’t think that anyone can sit this one out. I, again, have been sort of hesitant to speak out politically in the past,” she said. “I think we all need to use whatever platform we have to not only educate ourselves about the different candidates that are out there but to get out and vote. I mean, this is, it’s too important to stay silent.”
Buttigieg, 37, is currently polling in fourth place nationally at 7.2%, according to RealClearPolitics. He is performing better in Iowa, where he is at almost 19% in the polls.
