Police are investigating the discovery of what they believe are human bones found in a park in Southeast Washington.
The bones were found Saturday when citizens were conducting a clean-up of the wooded area on Malcolm X Boulevard and Second Street, police said Wednesday.
Police were called to the scene and were assisted members of the D.C. medical examiners office and the Smithsonian to collect the bones, said Sgt. Raul Mendez.
The police canvassed the park Tuesday for further bones and may return to conduct additional searches.
