A college student found stabbed to death in Morningside Park in New York City was reportedly in the area to buy marijuana, according to authorities.
Tessa Majors, 18, was found knifed to death on a set of stairs in the park on Wednesday. According to friends, she was in the Upper Manhattan park that evening to purchase marijuana. The teen, a student of Barnard College, was found with multiple stab wounds to her neck, arms, and face and her bag missing.
“What I am understanding is that [Majors] was in the park to buy marijuana,” Sergeants Benevolent Association President Ed Mullins said on a radio show Sunday morning.
A 13-year-old boy, who has been charged in Majors’s death, said the teenage girl was robbed by him and two other friends from middle school. He claimed one of the other boys fatally stabbed her in the attack. Neighbors of the boy, Zyairr Davis, said that he is known to be associated with marijuana.
“We have a common denominator: marijuana,” Mullins also said. “If you think about that, we don’t enforce marijuana laws anymore. We are basically hands-off on the enforcement of marijuana.”
Physical evidence linking Majors to illegal drug purchasing has not been made clear.
