Just hours before Iowa Republicans begin casting their votes for president in neighborhood caucuses, a key Trump surrogate said it is time the GOP rallies behind the front-runner and stop wasting money in an uphill battle to derail the former president.
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) told Secrets from Iowa that she is expecting a big victory for former President Donald Trump tonight, though she wouldn’t say just how big.
“A win is a win,” she said, noting that it would underscore his dominance in the party over challengers that trail him badly.
In calling for the party to back Trump, she said continuing to challenge Trump is a money pit for other candidates.
It is a “massive waste of money, massive waste of resources,” she said in between appearances for Trump in Iowa.
“Paul, don’t forget that it is an industry and there’s a lot of consultants and that’s how they make their money. They make their money by talking candidates into running and keeping candidates in races long when they should have dropped out. Talk about a psychological manipulation; political consultants are some of the best at it. And that’s how they make a living every campaign cycle,” Greene added.
During her campaigning for Trump, Greene has at times attracted bigger crowds than Trump’s rivals. “It’s always fun with Trump supporters. People are so excited,” she said.
In her appearances, Greene has come down hard on the former president’s challengers. For example, she called Nikki Haley a “Trojan horse.”

She also hit Vivek Ramaswamy as a “Trump copycat who’s manipulating people, saying if you want to save Trump, vote for me. I mean, what kind of psychological insanity is that? That’s a major turnoff.”
While Trump has said he has a pick for a running mate, Greene said the two have not discussed it recently. She is one of those believed to be on his list.
