Sen. John McCain will lie in state in the rotunda of the United States Capitol. He will be the 31st person to receive the honor.
A memorial service at the Washington National Cathedral will take place on Saturday. McCain will have a private burial ceremony at the U.S. Naval Academy in Annapolis, Md., on Sunday.
Friday’s ceremony on the Hill will be a private event for family, guests, and members of Congress. A public viewing is available between 1 p.m. and 8 p.m.
McCain, a six-term senator and former Republican nominee for president, died Aug. 25 from brain cancer at the age of 81.
