Jury selection has begun in the case of an elementary school teacher on trial for allegedly assaulting her students.
Susan L. Burke, 36, is facing trial on assault charges in Montgomery County Circuit Court. Prosecutors say Burke punched, kicked and choked students in her first-grade class at Greencastle Elementary School.
Judge Ronald Rubin questioned prospective jurors Monday on their ties to the legal profession, whether they have any ties to schools where Burke taught or feel so strongly about the nature of the allegations that they could not render a fair verdict.
