Liberal veterans organization to pump $45 million into contests supporting Biden and Democrats

VoteVets, a liberal political action committee supporting policies affecting veterans, is injecting $45 million into supporting President Joe Biden’s reelection and propping up other Democrats on the ballot ahead of the 2024 election cycle.

The organization is directing its efforts toward a $15 million project to attract support from veterans and active-duty military families in key battleground states, according to the New York Times. The group will also endorse Democratic House candidates who are veterans, have a background in national security, or are running in contested political districts.

VoteVets plans to release TV and radio ads in addition to sending out emails directed at rural regions where more veterans reside, according to the outlet. In an interview, the organization’s co-founder and chairman, Jon Soltz, said that the ads will highlight former President Donald Trump’s past statements made against the military.

“There’s political ramifications to all this. There’s no other way to explain the disrespect to Gold Star families and the erratic behavior and the attacks on our law enforcement at the Capitol — these are values things,” Soltz said.

VoteVets released a 60-second ad last month in Pennsylvania that targeted Trump for his past comments about veterans, which showed Gold Star families responding to Trump calling veterans “suckers” and “losers.”

Soltz told the New York Times that Biden’s veteran support “hasn’t tested well” for the way he handled withdrawing U.S. troops from Afghanistan.

Chairman of the Veterans for Trump Coalition, Rep. Brian Mast (R-FL), released a statement on behalf of Trump’s campaign calling the ad “as vile as it is absurd.”

“First and foremost, it cites a refuted claim debunked by senior officials who were in the room years ago,” Mast said in the statement. “Recycling this fake news is made worse by exploiting the pain of family members of fallen soldiers.”

VoteVets also plans to back Democratic candidates running for tight Senate races in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Nevada, and Montana, the Hill reported.
