Kellyanne Conway: I didn’t stop Trump talking to Bob Woodward for his book

White House counselor Kellyanne Conway on Sunday denied preventing President Trump from speaking with veteran journalist Bob Woodward for his highly anticipated forthcoming book.

“I did not,” Conway said during an interview on NBC News’ “Meet The Press” when pressed about her involvement, given the Washington Post published audio of a conversation between Woodward, Trump, and Conway regarding the issue.

In the 11-minute conversation, Trump criticized Woodward for not seeking comment from him. Woodward countered that he had asked “about six people,” including Conway, about the possibility of an interview.

Conway said Sunday that she “didn’t bring the request to the president directly,” despite Trump saying in Woodward’s recording that she could have because she has the necessary access.

“And then he said this week it wouldn’t have helped,” Conway said of the president. “It wouldn’t have made a difference. People write the books they want.”

The White House has tried to undermine Woodward’s book, “Fear: Trump in the White House,” by arguing that his sources are disgruntled former aides and that he did not attempt to confirm information with the staffers quoted in the book.
