Michael Lenz, 46, received a lethal injection Thursday night for the 2000 murder of a fellow prisoner.

Lenz, who was denied a stay of execution from the U.S. Supreme Court and clemency from Virginia Gov. Tim Kaine, was the second Virginia execution in two weeks.

“I would say his contentions are in no way grounds to overturn a fully justified death sentence,” said Tucker Martin, a spokesman for Virginia Attorney General Bob McDonnell. Martin called Lenz’s actions premeditated.

Lenz was originally in a state prison in Augusta for several Prince William County burglaries in the early 1990s.

He and a fellow inmate, Jeffrey Remington, fatally stabbed another inmate, Brent Parker, 68 times.

Lenz admitted to the murder during a trial and said it was part of an Asatru ceremony.

Asatru is the worship of Norse gods, and is considered a form of Paganism.
