A host on Fox & Friends has asked why former President Donald Trump was keeping classified documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence.
Steve Doocy, one of three hosts of the Fox News morning show, asked why three classified documents recovered by FBI agents were in Trump’s desk at Mar-a-Lago. Doocy said he heard Trump’s lawyers went through all his documents but for some reason did not decide to return the documents to the White House.
“What were they doing in the desk?!” Doocy asked. “And when you look at these particular things right here, at least five yellow folders marked ‘Top Secret’ and another ‘Secret SCI.’ That stands for ‘sensitive compartmentalized information.’ These are the biggest secrets in the world!”

Ainsley Earhardt, one of Doocy’s co-hosts, claimed Trump’s attorneys were asked why the documents were not returned and said Trump had already ordered them to be declassified and that the documents “were taken to Mar-a-Lago when he was president.” But Doocy countered that there is an accepted protocol for an administration to declassify documents, which Trump and his team did not follow.
On Tuesday, the Department of Justice published a photo of classified documents as part of its response to Trump’s petition for a special master to review materials seized by federal officials. The photo shows a series of documents on a carpeted floor, some with “secret” or “top secret” marked on them.

Trump has hired Florida’s former Solicitor General Chris Kise to represent him in the Justice Department’s criminal investigation related to the Mar-a-Lago raid. Kise is listed as working with Foley & Lardner as the co-chairman of the firm’s Appellate Practice and has also worked in the Florida Office of the Governor as both a counselor and general counsel.

The Republican National Committee will not be paying legal fees related to the FBI’s investigation. Trump will have to pay the legal bills on his own after hiring Kise, though the committee’s reasoning for withholding financial help is unclear, a source told Politico Tuesday.
