Haley campaign tells voters Trump would allow ‘Russian victory’ in new ad

Former U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations Nikki Haley‘s campaign announced on Tuesday a $2 million increase in South Carolina advertising, including a new ad that claims former President Donald Trump would allow a “Russian victory.”

The ad, titled “More Chaos,” seizes on recent comments Trump made in South Carolina suggesting Russia could “do whatever the hell they want” to NATO countries that are not financially up to date, showing the front-runner for the GOP presidential nomination happily shaking Russian President Vladimir Putin’s hand before the narrator says Haley is “a better choice for a better America.”

The narrator also says Trump would increase taxes, harking back to when the former president called for a 10% tariff plan on all imported goods in August 2023, prompting Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen to say the action would increase costs for U.S. consumers.

“The chaos that surrounds him is bad enough, but what is Trump saying he’ll actually do in office?” a narrator asks in the ad, first shared with NBC News. “A 10% across-the-board tax increase. More record-breaking debt. A Russian victory that will bring more war.”

The $2 million increase in advertising is in addition to a previous $4 million ad buy, bringing the total to $6 million spent against Trump in the final days before the Palmetto State’s Feb. 24 Republican primary.

The former two-term South Carolina governor is battling to remain a presidential candidate against Trump after losing primary contests in Iowa, New Hampshire, Nevada, and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Her campaign has ramped up aggressive attacks, portraying Trump as a dangerous leader who is mentally unable to serve four years in the White House. It is a similar criticism to the one she has made of President Joe Biden.

“With a world on fire and a crisis at home, America can’t afford Donald Trump’s chaos and unhinged policies,” said Olivia Perez-Cubas, a Haley spokeswoman. “With Trump’s temper tantrums and backward policies, there is only one warmonger in this race, and his name is Donald J. Trump. Nikki Haley offers a better way and a better America.”

Haley trails Trump in South Carolina by double digits, but she remains adamant that she will remain a 2024 candidate through Super Tuesday on March 5.
