Tucker Carlson says politicians calling for draft are ‘your enemy’

Tucker Carlson argued that any politician calling for nuclear war or the drafting of U.S. residents should be considered “your enemy.”

Carlson explained that people living in the United States have “a right to be mad” at politicians calling for a draft, especially if it were related to a war that has “nothing to do with prosperity and peace at home.” Carlson, himself, has four children old enough to be drafted.

“Because it’s my family,” Carlson said in an interview with commentator Russell Brand. “They live here. It’s not a joke to me. There’s nothing abstract about it.”

Carlson added that U.S. residents should “get some self-respect” and recognize that their children are what is most important in life.

The commentator went on to discuss freedom of speech and how the Republican Party is the party defending free speech. Carlson argued that this is a reversal from what has happened for “most of my life” but that the parties shifted in the mid-2010s to the point in which the Democratic Party became “the enemies” of free speech.

Carlson warned against Republican lawmakers who claimed that there is a difference between hate speech and free speech, with Carlson saying “there’s not” a difference. He clarified that he believes some speech is “immoral” but that those calling to outlaw some speech should also be considered as enemies within the U.S.

Carlson’s comments come in the wake of him conducting an interview with Russian President Vladimir Putin, making him the first U.S.-based journalist to conduct an interview with Putin since the start of the war in Ukraine. In the interview, Putin argued that the conflict has “an element of a civil war,” which stems from Putin’s claim that the people of Russia and Ukraine are “one people.”

Ahead of the interview’s release, the White House condemned the interview, with National Security Council spokesman John Kirby stating that it “should be very obvious to everybody what Mr. Putin has done in the war in Ukraine.”
