Kanye West sidesteps Gaza conflict question and points to Chicago troubles: ‘Kids dying every week in my city’

Rapper Kanye West said he did not “have enough information” when questioned about his opinion on the war in Gaza and instead suggested he be asked about Chicago, where “14 kids” are “dying every week.”

The rapper, who is now known as Ye, went viral in October 2022 for making several antisemitic comments.

“I don’t have enough information on that,” Ye said in a video shared to social media. “I’m a straight-up n**** from the South Side of Chicago, born in Atlanta. I don’t have enough information. It’s love for everybody. But don’t pull me into that conversation. I got 14 kids dying every week in my city. So seriously, talk to me about that!”

To date, 38 victims have reportedly died by homicide in Chicago since the beginning of 2024. The most recent was an 18-year-old male who was shot on Feb. 10 in the Chicago community of South Lawndale.

In December 2023, West posted an apology on social media to the Jewish community for “any unintended outburst” he had caused. The apology was written in Hebrew.

The antisemitic comments West made toward the end of 2022, which included posting an image of a swastika inside a Star of David on X, resulted in him losing multiple business deals he had made with various companies. Among these companies were Adidas, which carried Kanye’s line of shoes called “Yeezys,” and clothing outlet Balenciaga

The rapper’s account on X, which at the time was called Twitter, was also suspended, though the account has since been restored.
