An internet search for “threat to American democracy” yields an abundance of articles written by “experts” criticizing Republicans or former President Donald Trump. They mostly read like propagandized, fear-mongering rants rather than anything substantive. The left-wing media conglomerate purposely does this, in part, to mask the Left’s own efforts to subvert democracy.
The Biden administration’s creation of the Disinformation Governance Board is the latest example of this political manipulation. This organization, allegedly created to combat disinformation, will instead try to filter what news the public hears depending on what the government decides is true or untrue. Whatever form it takes, there is no reason to have confidence based on the government’s track record in this regard. And government censorship threatens some of the very ideals upon which our country was founded.
Consider the Democrats’ recent history of denying facts. The existence of Hunter Biden’s laptop was summarily dismissed as nothing more than a right-wing, Trump-inspired conspiracy theory. The Biden campaign and his Democratic accomplices in Washington and the media denied its existence. Yet those denials were exposed as lies less than two years later. Given the history, it’s safe to assume that had it existed at the time, Biden’s Disinformation Governance Board would have labeled the story as disinformation — even though it was the truth.
Such a scenario is even more concerning given that Nina Jankowicz has been appointed as the board’s executive director. She has a history of wanting to restrict speech and of falling for and spreading disinformation. She is on the record as calling the laptop story a “Trump campaign product.”
Moreover, consider her recent concerning remarks about free speech. Jankowicz criticized Elon Musk’s purchase of Twitter and said in an interview with NPR that she shudders “to think about if free speech absolutists were taking over more platforms.” Furthermore, Jankowicz said she is against the First Amendment because she thinks it is terrible for minority communities in the country. One could only imagine the horrifying censorship she will impose as a regulator of speech and information in this new position.
Between 1935 through 1953, the peak of Stalinism in the Soviet Union, many citizens were punished for “spreading rumors.” The Biden administration appears to echo this spirit and crave similar authoritarian powers, albeit not to such extremes. And given recent history, the Biden administration certainly cannot be trusted to separate truth from disinformation.
Under the guise of protecting from disinformation, the Biden administration ushers in totalitarianism. Biden’s Disinformation Governance Board threatens the country’s most cherished constitutional rights and is a legitimate threat to our democracy.
