A Minnesota school district tried to charge a $900,000 bill to a concerned parent group for filing a public records request about critical race theory in the district.
A law firm representing parent group Equality in Education requested Rochester Public Schools in southern Minnesota to disclose district materials that mentioned words commonly associated with critical race theory, the Daily Caller reported.

The district informed the group their request would require 13,478 hours to “search for, retrieve, and make copies of the data” and that Equality in Education would need to cover the $901,121.15 cost, which must be paid upfront.
Critical race theory, which states U.S. institutions and culture are systemically racist and oppressive to racial minorities, has been a topic of national controversy due to its presence in public schools.
Education officials and Democratic politicians nationwide insist the academic framework is not taught in public schools despite significant evidence to the contrary.
