Insulated metal water bottles and sunglasses inscribed with the words “Made in China” were among the free items in bags given out to attendees at the IV CEO Summit of the Americas, “the official private sector forum of the IX Summit of the Americas, where the U.S. government will host leaders from the Western Hemisphere,” according to the U.S. Chamber of Commerce.

Sundar Pichai, the CEO of Google; Nick Clegg, the president of global affairs at Meta; and Shilpan Amin, the vice president of global purchasing and supply chain for General Motors, were among attendees of the three-day conference that concluded Thursday to tout the private sector and global businesses prevalent in the Western Hemisphere.

The conference was hosted as an event to discuss the “power of the private sector” in connection to the Summit of the Americas, where international leaders, including President Joe Biden, gathered to discuss economic, climate, and migration topics this week.

U.S. officials have attracted scrutiny in the past for their reliance on foreign-made products. Some House members rebuffed KN95 masks because they were manufactured in China.

Representatives for the U.S. Chamber of Commerce did not respond to the Washington Examiner’s request for comment.
