Idriz Redzovic stepped in to help the clerk at a Chicago-area 7-Eleven after a man who had apparently stolen from the convenience store returned and punched the employee, according to a report.
The incident occurred around 10:15 p.m. on June 16 after a man who had allegedly been harassing a woman entered the 7-Eleven, took food items, and walked out, according to police.

The clerk, 19, did not immediately confront the thief, identified as 30-year-old Christopher Cruz, who soon returned and reportedly became violent.
Cruz was asked to leave upon his return and subsequently punched the clerk, police said.
“He assaulted a 711 employee, so I jumped in and took him to the ground and did a gift wrap hold which is taught in the art of Jiu-Jitsu until the police showed up and arrested him,” Redzovic posted to Facebook.
Redzovic is a third-degree Gracie jiujitsu black belt who teaches the martial art at Supreme Jiu-Jitsu Chicago.
“Hey, homie, let me go,” Cruz said, according to footage of the incident posted to social media.
“No,” Redzovic responded. “You swung at those dudes.”
Cruz was on the ground wrapped like a pretzel, according to the footage.
“I controlled, and I wrapped up his hands — so I’m safe and he’s safe,” Redzovic said. “I wasn’t sitting on him. I put my foot up, and if you notice, there’s no weight on him.”
Redzovic got involved to help everyone in the 7-Eleven.
“I feel like it’s my duty as a human on this planet to help another human in danger,” he said. “It could’ve gone two ways. The employee could have took him down also and pounded his face and beat him up.”
Redzovic held Cruz down for 13 minutes until police arrived, according to the report.
Cruz was arrested and charged with one count of misdemeanor battery and one count of misdemeanor retail theft.

“If he sees this, this could be a wake-up call for the man to change his life around,” Redzovic said.
