Former British Prime Minister Tony Blair is pushing back against the politicians’ “culture war,” particularly over transgender policies.
Blair, who once led the United Kingdom’s left-wing Labour Party, said voters “don’t like all this stuff that is being shoved at us” regarding the public discourse over transgender-related topics.

The former political leader also said: “Of course, we shouldn’t be transphobic and we should have equal rights for trans people. But equal rights doesn’t mean you can’t use the phrase ‘pregnant woman.'” Many organizations have taken to using the phrase “pregnant people” in an effort not to offend biological females who identify as transgender men.
Blair advocated for “common-sense positions” with regard to “no-platforming,” the practice by which speakers at places such as universities are canceled for adopting controversial beliefs.
“It’s ridiculous saying you can’t go and talk at a university if you say something I might not agree with,” he argued.

Several colleges have been dinged for infringing on free speech, with one watchdog announcing its “10 Worst Colleges for Free Speech” earlier this month. Even some professors, such as Ilya Shapiro, have faced disciplinary action for expressing views deemed controversial.
Blair served as prime minister from 1997 to 2007. He now serves as the executive chairman of the Tony Blair Institute for Global Change.
