Buzz: GOP club quick to take Cheney photo down, Ted and Heidi Cruz love their guns, new CIA spokeswoman

The National Republican Club of Capitol Hill, also known as the Capitol Hill Club, wasted no time in recognizing the ouster of Wyoming Rep. Liz Cheney as House GOP Conference chairwoman, the No. 3 leadership position.

On the wall where the portraits of House leaders are hung, the frame that held her photo was emptied swiftly after the House Republican Caucus vote.

The move drew some jeers from Cheney’s fans. “No, that doesn’t look tacky at all, does it?” said one of the empty frame.

  • Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is like a lot of gun owners. He has many weapons, and he wants them hidden from the government. In blasting new Democratic gun control legislation, he cited his and his wife’s collection to speak out against gun registration and confiscation efforts. “At home, Heidi and I own firearms. There is no government list of the firearms we own, and I’m very glad there’s no government list of the firearms we have,” he said at a hearing. “The Democrats on this committee want to trace every firearm in America. They want a registry,” he warned, adding, “When you see countries enact registries of firearms, the next step is confiscation.”

  • The CIA has a new chief spokeswoman, former reporter Tammy Kupperman Thorp. For nearly 17 years at NBC News and three at CNN, she covered justice and the Supreme Court. Lately, she ran media relations for defense contractor BAE Systems, Inc.
