Russian President Vladimir Putin pushed back on British Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s suggestion that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine would not have happened if he were a woman, citing the “imperial ambitions” of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher.

Putin pointed to Thatcher’s decision to send British troops to the Falkland Islands to fend off Argentina’s attempt to gain sovereignty in rejecting Johnson’s comment that the war in Ukraine was a “perfect example of toxic masculinity.”

BORIS JOHNSON: PUTIN INVASION OF UKRAINE A ‘PERFECT EXAMPLE OF TOXIC MASCULINITY’

“I just want to recall the events of recent history, when Margaret Thatcher decided to launch military operations against Argentina for the Falkland Islands. So, a woman took the decision to launch military action,” Putin said during a visit to Turkmenistan, according to Reuters.

Putin heavily criticized Thatcher’s 1982 decision to send a naval task force to take on Argentine forces, initiating a 74-day war before Argentina surrendered.

“Where are the Falkland Islands, and where is Britain?” Putin asked. “Thatcher’s actions were dictated by nothing less than imperial ambitions and [a desire to] confirm their imperial status.”

Johnson claimed that if Putin were a woman, Russia would not be at war in Ukraine.

“If you want a perfect example of toxic masculinity, it’s what he’s doing in Ukraine,” Johnson said.

Russia’s deadly war in Ukraine has entered its fifth month with no sign of resolution in sight, as both sides take incalculable military losses. In recent days, Russian missiles destroyed the Kremenchuk mall, with more than 1,000 people estimated to be inside.
