Comedian Dave Chappelle and podcast host Joe Rogan slammed Saturday Night Live for cast members’ initial pushback against billionaire Elon Musk hosting, saying that “woke” culture was likely behind the controversy.
“No one is woke enough,” Rogan said on The Joe Rogan Experience ahead of Musk’s appearance. “They can’t appreciate the fact that you’re dealing with literally one of the most brilliant men that’s ever lived that’s gonna come do your show.”
“Like you said, no one can be woke enough,” Chappelle echoed. “I’m torn because I like a warrior for a good cause, but I’m really into tactics. You’re not gonna nag people into behaving … In fact, if you continue with this tone, even if you’re right, you’ll be very hard to hear.”
Musk’s much-anticipated premiere as host of the weekly sketch show was initially hit with criticism by some cast members, who posted on social media of their grievances.

The controversy also led to an SNL source telling Page Six that the show’s creator Lorne Michaels “won’t ever make them do anything they don’t want to do” and that they would not have to appear onstage with Musk.
Despite the controversy, the Tesla billionaire, who has been criticized by liberals and others for his comments on the coronavirus, hosted the show this weekend and joked about space exploration, Dogecoin, and the complicated pronunciation of his son’s name, “X Æ A-Xii.”

Chappelle added in his interview that Musk is “incredibly kind,” saying, “I teased him about being the richest man in the world.
“He took it with good humor.”
