The Biden administration will not repaint President Joe Biden’s Air Force One with a redesign suggestion from former President Donald Trump.
The former president, who left office in January 2021, wanted to change Air Force One’s iconic blue and gold color scheme to red, white, and blue. The redesign was scrapped after the Air Force determined the darker color scheme would have created engine heat issues for the aircraft, according to Politico.
“The Trump paint scheme is not being considered because it could drive additional engineering, time and cost,” said an anonymous administration official.

The exterior color scheme on the presidential aircraft is white with two shades of blue. The design dates back to President John F. Kennedy’s administration in the early 1960s.
Trump claimed in 2019 that he wanted to change up the traditional pattern of Air Force One, adding that “the baby blue doesn’t fit with us.”
The Air Force awarded a $3.9 billion contract in 2018 to Boeing for a pair of modified 747-8s to replace the existing Air Force One based on the 747-200B that has been flying since the 1990s. The airline company has lost $1.1 billion on the project and “probably” should not have taken the deal, CEO Dave Calhoun claimed in April.
