The LEGO Group will construct its first factory in the United States, with the new plant set to be built in Virginia, the company announced on Wednesday.
The company will invest $1 billion over the course of 10 years into the manufacturing factory, which will be constructed in Chesterfield County, Virginia. A total of 1,760 jobs are expected to be created from the factory, according to a press release from LEGO.
“The LEGO Group’s decision to establish its U.S. manufacturing plant in Virginia shines a global spotlight on the advantages that make the Commonwealth the best business location in the nation, and we look forward to a long and successful partnership with this iconic company,” said Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin.

The factory will be designed to operate as a carbon-neutral facility. A temporary packaging site will also open in an existing building nearby in early 2024, which will create up to 500 jobs, the company said.
The Virginia factory will mark the LEGO Group’s seventh factory globally and its second one in North America, following a factory already built in Monterrey, Mexico, that primarily supplies the U.S. market. The Monterrey factory will also be expanded and upgraded to meet the company’s growing demand for products.
The LEGO Group was “impressed with all that Virginia has to offer,” including its “skilled workforce” and the state’s “support for high-quality manufacturers,” CEO Niels Christiansen said.
“We appreciate support for our ambition to build a carbon-neutral run facility and construct a solar park and are looking forward to building a great team with support from the Virginia Talent Accelerator Program,” Christiansen said.
