Ford announced Thursday that it will be investing $3.7 billion in car factories across Michigan, Ohio, and Missouri and will be adding 6,200 new jobs.
These investments will go toward the production of its electric vehicles, including the F-150 Lightning truck, E-Transit van, and new electric commercial vehicle, as well as its latest gas-powered edition of the Mustang and Ranger. The company has a goal of producing 2 million electric vehicles per year globally by 2026.
In addition to the new manufacturing jobs, Ford will convert 3,000 of its temporary worker positions into full-time roles complete with healthcare benefits. The company estimated that this will also lead to 74,000 indirect new U.S. jobs by the end of 2026.

The announcement comes following negotiations with United Auto Workers, though the automaker boasted that these jobs will come a year before their contracted schedule.
Ford further pledged $1 billion over the next five years to “improve the workplace experience for manufacturing employees.” Some examples of improvements include healthy cafeteria food, new EV chargers, and better lighting in parking lots.
In Michigan, which has been the company’s home since its founding in 1903, it is making its largest investments. Ford will give facilities in the state a “$2 billion investment and 3,200 union jobs including the creation of nearly 2,000 jobs throughout three assembly plants in Michigan to increase production of the all-new F-150 Lightning electric truck to 150,000 per year at Rouge Electric Vehicle Center in Dearborn, produce an all-new Ranger pickup at Michigan Assembly Plant in Wayne and an all-new Mustang coupe at Flat Rock Assembly Plant.”
The Mustang is the No. 2 most American-made car as of last year, with the Ranger being the 28th most American-made model.
