From fuel to fertilizer, America’s green thumbs get hit when they plant and when they buy finished products at the local Piggly Wiggly.

And now one group is fighting back. Ag Conservatives, a new coalition led by two former agriculture secretaries, has formed to challenge Biden administration policies that are boosting inflation.

In its first move, it is spending tens of thousands to fight an import tax proposed by President Joe Biden that would lead to higher prices on goods produced overseas, including fertilizer. It’s in the “Build Back Better” plan that the president is trying to resurrect.

Called the “carbon border tax,” the group dubbed it “inflation on steroids” in a new video. “The cost of food and gas will go up even more,” warned the ad.

“Ag Conservatives will stand against over-regulation of American agriculture. We intend to make a difference,” said John Block, former President Ronald Reagan’s first USDA boss.

Ed Schafer, former President George W. Bush’s agriculture secretary, added, “Ag conservatives stand for free people, free markets, and free trade. We want to ensure that conservative views are heard in policy discussions important to the future of American agriculture.”
