A man carrying a gun at a facility hosting a youth summer camp was shot and killed by police in Duncanville, Texas, on Monday, according to authorities.
No campers, camp staff, or police were injured, the Duncanville Police Department said.
Police responded to several phone calls about a man with a handgun at the Duncanville Fieldhouse around 8:45 a.m., just as a summer camp for children between the ages of 8 and 14 was getting started, the city’s assistant chief of police, Matthew Stogner, said in a press conference.
“The subject was struck and officers provided first aid,” Officer Michelle Arias of the Duncanville Police Department said, according to FOX 4. “The suspect was transported to the hospital and later pronounced deceased.”

After the shooting, the campers were moved to a recreation center, where police asked their parents to pick them up. The camp has a daily average of 250 campers, Stogner said.
