Tim Tebow to sign contract with Jacksonville Jaguars: Report

Former NFL quarterback Tim Tebow will reportedly make a return to professional football next season as a Jacksonville Jaguar.

The franchise will sign the 33-year-old Tebow to a one-year deal, which is expected to be made official next week, according to NFL.com.

A deal would put Tebow back on the field with his former coach, Urban Meyer, who took over as Jacksonville’s coach in January. The two led the University of Florida to two collegiate national championships in 2006 and 2008.

The report of a deal follows recent news that Tebow worked out as a tight end for the team, which ESPN reported on April 29.

“[Tebow] worked out as a tight end, and that’s the position he’ll be playing,” Jaguars general manager Trent Baalke said.

On May 1, Meyer discussed Tebow’s workout with the team but offered few details, saying the two had talked about a potential return to the league.

“We had a conversation. He worked out with our tight ends coach. I stopped by, did not stay for the whole workout,” he said.

“I have one job, and that is to win games with the Jacksonville Jaguars,” Meyer added. “If Tim Tebow or [former Clemson University running back] Travis Etienne can help us win, then that’s my job to get them ready to go play. That decision is certainly not made yet.”
