Iowa Senate approves constitutional amendment on abortion

The Iowa Senate approved a constitutional amendment Wednesday stating Iowans do not have a fundamental right to abortion or public funding for it, a step toward making the question of legal abortion a ballot measure by 2024.

The state House passed the constitutional amendment proposal Tuesday, 54-38, with three Republicans joining every Democrat in voting no. On Wednesday, the Iowa Senate passed it 30-18 along party lines.
