Penguin Random House is sticking with Justice Amy Coney Barrett and her book deal.

The publisher took a lot of heat from more than 600 writers, editors, and literary workers who called to cancel the deal in an open letter, citing concerns over her vote to overturn Roe v. Wade. The letter claimed the call wasn’t for “a form of censorship” but rather out of concern for “wider and moral social responsibilities.”

“We remain fully committed to publishing authors who, like Justice Barrett, substantively shape today’s most important conversations,” Adrian Zackheim with Sentinel, an imprint of Penguin Random House, told the Wall Street Journal.

“[Sentinel] publishes books so that people can read them, and evaluate them on their own,” Zackheim added. “In an intelligent free society we need to disseminate ideas in a robust form so that we can discuss them.”

Zackheim noted that Sentinel is honored to publish a book by a sitting Supreme Court justice and said it will likely be available in 2024.
