Georgia Senate candidate Herschel Walker responded to a social media tirade from his son earlier this week, noting that he loves him “unconditionally and I always have.”

The Republican candidate’s son Christian Walker had unleashed attacks against his father on Twitter in response to reports that Herschel Walker paid for a woman to have an abortion after the pair conceived a child while dating in 2009. Herschel Walker has denied the reports, but his son accused his father of deciding to “air out all of his dirty laundry in public” while “lying about it.”

Walker brushed off the accusations in an interview with Fox News on Wednesday, maintaining that the accusations are false and that he has “been redeemed.”

“So what you’re saying is, you haven’t been the perfect dad, you haven’t been the perfect spouse, but you’ve been redeemed?” asked Fox News host Brian Kilmeade. “Is that what you’re saying?”

“That’s exactly what I’m saying,” Walker responded.

The comments come one day after Christian Walker released a thread of tweets to his thousands of followers, accusing his father of “lying and making a mockery” of him and his mother.

“You’re not a ‘family man’ when you left us to bang a bunch of women, threatened to kill us, and had us move over 6 times in 6 months running from your violence,” Christian Walker said in a tweet. “I don’t care about someone who has a bad past and takes accountability. But how DARE YOU LIE and act as though you’re some ‘moral, Christian, upright man.’ You’ve lived a life of DESTROYING other peoples lives. How dare you.”

Herschel Walker, who hopes to unseat Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-GA) in November, denied the report and has vowed to sue the Daily Beast, which originally published the abortion story. Although the outlet did not name the woman, it reported that Herschel Walker knew the woman.

“It’s sort of like everyone is anonymous. Everyone is leaking, they want you to confess to something you have no clue about,” Walker said. “But it just shows how desperate they are right now. They see me as a big threat, and I know that. And I knew it when I got into this race, but they don’t realize it. I think they came for the wrong one. They energize me. They energize me, because I know how they really want to try and keep their seat.”

The recent allegations threaten to derail Walker’s bid against Warnock, who barely leads the Republican in the polls. Recent polling found Warnock leading Walker 47% to 46.3%, according to RealClearPolitics.
