Wednesday was the Apple iPhone’s 15th anniversary, marking the day the very first one went on sale to the public.
Founder and then-CEO Steve Jobs introduced the cellphone in January 2007, announcing that the smartphone would have a touch screen, rear-facing camera, internet access, and the music capabilities of an iPod, in addition to its phone capabilities. It cost $499 at the time.
Then, there was no front-facing camera, Siri, or even an app store. The phone only had 8 gigabytes of storage.

It functions on the A15 chip, a bionic central processing unit that works faster and at a higher frequency than previous chips. The first iPhone wasn’t quite functioning on 3G at the time of its release. The iPhone 13 is water-resistant, with a ceramic shield that the company claims is “tougher than any smartphone glass.”
Its largest version, including 512GB of storage, retails for $999.
The first version had its classic home button and Apple logo on the back. It was also significantly thicker than recent phones.
