LeBron James revealed that he no longer supports the Dallas Cowboys over the team’s owner’s stance on kneeling during the national anthem.
James confirmed he was no longer a fan of the team on an Instagram live Thursday night, saying he viewed it as a question of “freedom of speech.”
“There were just a lot of things that were going on during when guys were kneeling, and guys were having freedom of speech. They wanted to do it in a very peaceful manner. A lot of people in their front office and a lot of people that ran the organization were like, ‘If you do that around here, then you will never play for this franchise again.’ And I just didn’t think that was appropriate so,” James said.

James said he still roots for individual players who play for the Cowboys, such as running back Ezekiel Elliot and CeeDee Lamb.
Cowboys owner Jerry Jones had said in 2017 that if a player kneels for the national anthem, he will not be permitted to play. The statement came weeks after he and the entire Cowboys team had taken a knee before the national anthem after then-President Donald Trump criticized players for kneeling during the anthem.
Jones did relax his policy in 2020 after widespread protests in the sports world following the death of George Floyd. It is unknown whether the policy against kneeling has been reinstated.

The NBA superstar also said that in terms of NFL teams he “is all in” on the Cleveland Browns, who play near his hometown of Akron, Ohio.
James and the Los Angeles Lakers are winless in their first four games of the NBA season.
