A California sheriff said he’s tired of watching Democrats focus on gun control policy as crime continues to rise across the country.

Scott Jones, Sacramento County sheriff and Republican congressional candidate, told Fox & Friends Tuesday that the United States too often treats “criminals like victims.”

“This is not a gun control issue. This is a criminal control issue,” said Jones, who has been with the sheriff’s office for 33 years, noting that gun control laws only affect those who choose to abide by the law.

“You know, it’s kind of like a drunk driver getting in a car and killing somebody, and then blaming the car. It’s not the car’s fault,” Jones added. “The same logic applies to a gun.”

Jones’s comments come at the heels of President Joe Biden’s proposal to regulate “ghost guns,” 3D printed gun parts, and gun-building kits on Monday.

The sheriff blasted politicians for missing the point and setting the stage for more crime.

“All these legislators and politicians in Washington pat each other on the back after these mass murders and think they’re doing God’s work by passing more gun legislation, but they are doing nothing to stop the criminals that are possessing these weapons and wreaking havoc,” Jones said.
