All of the former members, Benjamin Boyers, 21; Daylen Dunson, 22; Jarrett Prizel, 19; Niall Sweeney, 21; and Aaron Lehane, 21, were sentenced to at least two years of probation and 28 days of house arrest, with Dunson and Prizel both sentenced to another 21 and 28 days in jail, respectively.
Prizel, Dunson, and Boyers pleaded guilty to reckless homicide and hazing counts over the alcohol poisoning death of Stone Foltz, a 20-year-old sophomore student at Bowling Green State University. Sweeney also pleaded guilty to felony tampering with evidence and a hazing misdemeanor while Lehane pleaded guilty to four misdemeanor charges, according to WTOL 11.
“While today’s sentencings may be a conclusion for some of the young men convicted in relation to Stone’s death, there will be no closure for our family until hazing is permanently eradicated on college campuses,” Foltz’s family said in a statement. “Universities and Greek organizations must be held accountable for creating and supporting environments that allow hazing to thrive.”
NEARLY 50 MEMBERS OF UNIVERSITY OF NEW HAMPSHIRE FRATERNITY FACE HAZING CHARGES
Foltz attended an off-campus fraternity event in March 2021, during which new members were told to drink an entire bottle of alcohol each. Foltz drank all or nearly all of his bottle before he was dropped off at his apartment and later found unresponsive by his roommate and other friends, later dying on March 7, 2021, court documents state.
A total of eight men were indicted in connection to Foltz’s death. Two of them, Jacob Krinn and Canyon Caldwell, are set to be sentenced on June 24, and the last, Troy Henricksen, is scheduled for sentencing on July 29.
