Border arrests up in November as Biden releases more illegal immigrants into US

If you release them, more will come.

President Joe Biden’s Department of Homeland Security has reduced the number of migrant families detained for illegally crossing the southern border to zero, according to a report this week.

But this milestone wasn’t reached by ending the surge of illegal immigrants crossing the southern border. Quite the opposite. The number of illegal immigrants who were arrested crossing the border rose in November to 173,600. That is up 5% from the 164,000 arrested in October, and it is more than double the 72,000 caught last November.

The only way that Biden was able to reduce the number of illegal immigrant families detained at the border was to release them into the United States. Many of these migrants will try to win asylum status from immigration judges, but almost none of them will succeed since they are economic migrants and don’t qualify for asylum.

But as long as Democrats control the White House, these illegal immigrants also know they will never be deported, which is why over 100,000 keep coming every month under Biden’s watch.

There are real costs from Biden’s border crisis, including crime and lawlessness in many border communities. One sheriff in Maverick County, Texas, recently told the Washington Examiner why he is cooperating with Texas state officials to get illegal immigration under control.

“I saw immigrants get into houses, breaking in, damaging, taking things,” Sheriff Tom Schmerber said. “I started getting calls from ranchers about all the damage they were doing — calls from neighborhoods close to the city about breaking in, taking things.”

The Biden administration has shown zero interest in trying to enforce our nation’s border laws, so local sheriffs such as Schmerber are now working with the state of Texas to prosecute illegal immigrants for trespassing under Texas law.

Democrats have long assumed that by not enforcing immigration laws, they could better attract Hispanic and Latino voters to their party. But new polling shows that this decadeslong assumption may be wrong.

Equis Research, a Democratic polling firm, recently released data showing that not only do 55% of Hispanic voters support more spending on border security, but 51% also support limiting asylum and 49% support reducing legal immigration. And this was a poll from 2020 — before the Biden border crisis.

More recent polling shows that 53% of Hispanic voters disapprove of Biden’s handling of immigration because they believe he has “not been tough enough.”

When the border crisis first started, Biden said the illegal immigrant surge was just seasonal and that it would soon fade. These November numbers again show just how wrong Biden was. And the polling shows that Hispanics may punish him for being wrong in 2024.
