The U.S. senator from Minnesota alluded to her father’s struggle with alcoholism during the confirmation hearings of Justice Brett Kavanaugh, who was accused of drinking excessively during his high school years.

“You are saying there’s never been a case where you drink so much that you didn’t remember what happened the night before or part of what happened?” Klobuchar asked Kavanaugh during his hearing before the Senate Judiciary Committee.

“You’re asking about blackout. I don’t know. Have you?” Kavanaugh responded.

He later apologized for the remark, and Klobuchar responded, “When you have a parent that’s an alcoholic, you’re pretty careful about drinking.”
