Perhaps it was just a coincidence, but it appears nearly all of the political talking shows on Sunday ignored the results of one of the biggest trials of the year — Jussie Smollett’s guilty verdict. One would think that this would be a popular topic to discuss. It dominated news headlines, and many people, from entertainers to the president and vice president, gave their opinions on it. Compared to the Kyle Rittenhouse trial about a week earlier, there seemed to be a shocking lack of discussion about Jussie Smollett.

Granted, most of the shows spent a considerable amount of time talking about the devastating tornado system that hit the Mississippi Valley, Midwest, and Southeast on Saturday. And these tragic events do warrant news coverage and discussions, especially at the expense of a sinister, manipulative fraud who faked a hate crime. However, it’s hard to think that the same lack of discussion would have taken place had Smollett been found innocent or the hate crime been legitimate. Rest assured, if the Smollett incident were truthful, it would have been the lead story on Sunday, regardless of the tornadoes.
