Violence continues in day No. 10 of Israel-Hamas fighting as Lebanon launches assault

Violence between Israel and Hamas continues to persist as Lebanon launched rocket attacks toward the U.S. ally on day No. 10 of the prolonged conflict.

Four munitions were fired at Israel on Wednesday morning, of which one was intercepted by the country’s Iron Dome missile defense system, the Israel Defense Force wrote in a tweet. Military authorities responded by hammering targets in Lebanon as the country faces the ever-present threat in Gaza.

Two individuals suffered minor wounds when one of the rockets struck Israeli soil, according to the Jerusalem Post. A 10-year-old girl was also injured after she was struck by a car while running to a bomb shelter.

The attack marks the second time Lebanon launched munitions at Israel in the past week. On Monday, sirens blared in the Jewish nation after six rockets were fired from Lebanon, though no injuries were reported as most of the missiles fell short of the border.

Hamas has continued its attacks throughout the week as approximately 230 projectiles have been launched since 7 a.m. local time, the Times of Israel reported. The IDF intercepted 90% of the rockets, and a total of 30 fell short and dropped in Gaza territory.

One Israeli was hit with shrapnel, and 11 others suffered minor wounds as they rushed to bomb shelters. Several rockets slammed into homes in the Sderot area, leaving substantial damage.

The IDF hit back by neutralizing three terrorist-controlled launch pads and four Hamas militants attempting to fire rockets.

In one high-profile ground incident, IDF troops said they gunned down a terrorist, sporting an M-16 rifle, who fired on Israeli military authorities.

As of Tuesday, 227 people have been killed in Gaza, including 64 children and 38 women, while more than 1,620 have been wounded thus far, according to the Palestinian Ministry of Health. A total of 12 have been slain in Israel.

On Wednesday, the IDF reported that terrorist groups have fired over 4,000 rockets at Israel since the start of the conflict.
