Brooklyn father fights off armed robbers posing as trick-or-treaters, protects 8-year-old son

A New York father fought off armed robbers in the city who posed as trick-or-treaters on Halloween while his 8-year-old son was inside their home, police said.

A man and a woman wearing Halloween masks knocked on the father’s door and reportedly said “trick-or-treat” before the man showed a gun as they attempted to force their way inside, according to police. The incident was captured on video and occurred at around 10:30 p.m. in Brooklyn.

The female suspect went back down the stairs and exited the scene as the male suspect grappled with the father in the doorway, footage showed. Another male suspect can be seen running up the stairway and trying to force his way inside.

The two suspects repeatedly hit the father as they attempted to get inside the home, police said. The father managed to fight the men off, pushing them outside and locking the door in front of them. The suspects fled the scene.

The father and his family have lived in the home for about five years and did not want to be interviewed about the incident, WNBC-TV reported. A neighbor said she told the father’s 8-year-old son that his father was “Superman.”

“I told him that your dad’s a hero — your dad’s Superman — he fought two guys off,” said Missy Haggerty. “People like that, especially what they had on them, can’t be walking the streets in this community. Somebody will get hurt.”

The suspects dropped a bag containing a stun gun, zip ties, and tape, police said. An investigation is underway.
