Amber Heard stood by her testimony, claiming she told the truth and “paid the price” while admitting that the defamation trial between her and ex-husband Johnny Depp made the actors appear to be “Hollywood brats at their worst.”
In part two of an interview airing in portions throughout the week on the Today show, the actress said she does not blame the average person for being disgusted with how the trial played out.

“I would not blame the average person for looking at this and how it’s been covered and not think that it is Hollywood brats at their worst,” Heard said. “But what people don’t understand is, it’s actually so much bigger than that. This is — this is not only about our First Amendment right to speak.”

Today co-host Savannah Guthrie challenged Heard on the definition of the First Amendment.
“My understanding of what that means is not just the freedom to speak. As the freedom to speak truth to power,” Heard responded. “That’s all I spoke. And I spoke it to power and I paid the price.”
When asked whether she agreed with Depp’s lawyers who suggested the trial’s outcome was because she did not take ownership of her actions, Heard said she did “do and say horrible, regrettable things.”
“I behaved in horrible, almost-unrecognizable-to-myself ways. I have so much regret,” Heard said. “I freely and hopefully and voluntarily talked about what I did. I talked about the horrible language. I talked about being pushed to the extent where I didn’t even know the difference between, you know, right and wrong.”
“I will always continue to feel like I was a part of this — like I was the other half of this relationship because I was,” she continued. “And it was ugly. And could be very beautiful. It was very, very toxic. We were awful to each other. You know, I made a lot of — lot of mistakes. A lot of mistakes. But I’ve always told the truth.”
