Why would President Joe Biden, a man who pledged “not to divide, but to unify,” call the vast majority of those who support voter identification traitorous enemies of democracy?
Because his pollsters told him to.

But when Democrats are dishonest and say that Republicans are taking away the right to vote, then people begin to care.
Here is what Democratic pollster Celinda Lake told the Washington Post: “It is not particularly strong to talk about making voting harder or easier. People don’t necessarily think voting should be that easy. And they feel like it’s a responsibility, so if you have to go to a little effort, that’s not necessarily a bad thing.”
Democrats need to “characterize who the villains are and what the villainous behavior is,” Celinda continued. “All of that’s really strong.”
This is why Biden compared anyone who supports Georgia’s completely reasonable voting law to George Wallace, Bull Connor, and Jefferson Davis. If you tell people what Georgia’s voting law actually does, such as require voter identification for mail-in ballots, they’ll think the law is fine.
But if you falsely say Georgia’s law is “voter suppression” and is designed to “disenfranchise anyone who votes” Democratic, then some people might pay attention.
On the other hand, 66% already believe Biden is dishonest, and his continued dishonesty about what the Georgia law does and doesn’t do will only make the public distrust him more.
