Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh said defending unborn life requires “courage.”
Harbaugh, who is Catholic, argued at the Sunday auction for the Plymouth Right to Life foundation that “every unborn human life” is “filled with potential,” likely a reference to the Supreme Court’s recent ruling striking down the Roe v. Wade precedent.

“In God’s plan, each unborn human truly has a future filled with potential, talent, dreams, and love. I have living proof in my family, my children, and the many thousands that I’ve coached that the unborn are amazing gifts from God to make this world a better place,” Harbaugh said.
“To me, the right choice is to have the courage to let the unborn be born. I believe in having the courage to let the unborn be born,” he continued.
When asked whether he was worried his comments would get him “canceled,” Harbaugh remained confident that his beliefs would not affect his ability to recruit and coach.
“During halftime of a game, talking with the players, I say they are here because they have chosen to be here. If someone believes in what they stand for, they are choosing to stand for that position, and what kind of person are you if you don’t fight tooth and nail for what you stand for? You get to change hearts by fighting for what you stand for,” Harbaugh responded.
Some on the Left took to Twitter to condemn the Michigan coach, with some calling for his removal.
“No one who actively attempts to deny women their most basic rights should ever be allowed to hold a position of influence at a public university. That includes University of Michigan football coach Jim Harbaugh and his anti-woman fundraising. He’s a public employee. Fire his a**,” the Palmer Report wrote.
“This might be a difficult concept for Jim Harbaugh [or] any anti-choice person to grasp … but if you don’t want an abortion, just don’t get one. Not that hard,” tweeted Jemele Hill, a contributor to the Atlantic.
Others rallied behind Harbaugh, praising the coach for his comments.
“I appreciate that Head Coach Jim Harbaugh isn’t afraid to speak about his faith & his support for choosing life over abortion,” Reverend Franklin Graham tweeted.
