Teenager pleads guilty to murder in carjacking of DC Uber Eats driver, will serve in juvenile detention until she’s 18

A teenage girl who killed an Uber Eats driver during an attempted carjacking in Washington, D.C., has pleaded guilty to murder but will only serve three years.

“The 15 year-old who killed Uber Eats driver Mohammad Anwar has pled guilty to felony murder,” Fox News anchor John Roberts reported Tuesday. “Because of her age, she will be remanded to juvenile detention and will be released when she turns 18.”

The teenager, who was accompanied by her 13-year-old friend, killed the 66-year-old Anwar while attempting to carjack him in March. After struggling with the two girls for control of his vehicle, Anwar was ejected and slammed into the pavement in an incident that went viral after being posted on social media.

In the video, a female in an orange hoodie is seen struggling with the driver before the car speeds off and later crashes. Another female in a gray shirt is pulled from the car by what appears to be military personnel while Anwar lies dying several feet away on the sidewalk.

At one point during the struggle, the teenagers reportedly used a stun gun on Anwar.

“He was a hardworking immigrant who came to the U.S. in 2014 to build a better life for himself and his family,” Anwar’s family said later in a statement. “The loss for his family is immeasurable.”

A GoFundMe page to help support Anwar’s family raised over $1 million.

A hearing for the 13-year-old girl was rescheduled from Tuesday to May 19.
