The Colorado Senate race between Sen. Michael Bennet (D-CO) and Republican Joe O’Dea has shifted from leaning Democratic to being deemed a toss-up, according to election forecaster RealClearPolitics. The news spells trouble for Democrats who are hoping to hold on to their majority in at least one of the chambers of Congress as Republicans are poised to take the House next week.

“Voters are angry, and they know who caused the problem — they’re fed up and eager for change,” said Joshua Marin-Mora, the deputy press secretary for the O’Dea campaign.
The Senate has long been considered a toss-up, with both parties having opportunities to edge out the other for a majority for the next two years. However, Republicans have shown revived strength in the final two weeks of the midterm cycle, with some election forecasters predicting the GOP will gain control.
Recent polling shows a tightening race between Bennet and O’Dea, with the latest survey from the Trafalgar Group showing the Democratic incumbent narrowly leading 48% to 46%. However, national average polling from forecaster FiveThirtyEight shows Bennet with an overall 9.7-percentage-point lead, meaning he has a chance to cling to victory.

Democrats are seeking to hold on to all of their Senate seats in the midterm elections as even one loss could risk their majority in the upper chamber. The final Senate outlook from the nonpartisan Cook Political Report shows Republicans could get up to 52 or 53 seats, whereas the Democrats’ best chance at holding the majority would be to stay at a 50-50 tie.
