I don’t need to wait 100 days to judge Joe Biden’s presidency. We already know exactly where he stands. President Biden, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, and House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have made their socialist agenda clear. In the first 50 days, the Democrats took extreme positions and steps to federalize our elections, defund the police, and create a crisis at our border.
Democrats have made clear their desire to transform our nation into a liberal utopia. The Democrats’ first legislative priority for the 117th Congress was to pass H.R. 1, which would federalize elections and use taxpayer dollars to match donations and publicly finance partisan campaigns.
This would essentially overturn Texas’s commonsense election integrity measures such as a photo ID requirement, meddle in the state’s redistricting process, and force pandemic-related emergency measures such as no-excuse mail-in voting to be expanded and made permanent. This means Texans lose control over their own elections, a function that has and should always be managed at the state level. As a former secretary of state, I know that Texans don’t need the federal government to tell them how to run their ballot boxes.
Biden and congressional Democrats have now prioritized illegal immigrants over citizens. Look no further than the images of the storm of immigrants arriving at the border. It took Biden just hours to undo President Donald Trump’s progress, halting construction of the border wall, reinstating catch and release, and pausing deportations for 100 days. In the month of February alone, 100,000 migrants crossed the border.
The president continues to enact indefensible policies that weaken our immigration system and create additional public health risks. While America continues to make great strides to defeat the COVID-19 pandemic, the Biden administration is encouraging more people to enter the country without appropriate health measures, even though our airports and border points remain closed to other countries. All the while, he refuses to acknowledge the crisis unfolding before our eyes or even hold a press conference on the subject.
Law enforcement officers who make daily sacrifices to keep our neighborhoods safe are now under attack by liberal lawmakers and activists. The George Floyd Justice in Policing Act of 2021 will make it harder for police officers to do their job and keep our communities free from potential crimes and threats. This bill prohibits the use of no-knock warrants in drug-related cases and withholds state and local funding for failing to adopt such policies.
It also gets rid of qualified immunity and could, as we’ve seen in other states, require police officers to carry insurance policies on the job. As Democrats chant “defund the police” and continue to punish the honorable men and women in blue, they’re undermining the importance of the profession and risking the safety and well-being of our communities.
Biden’s next 50 days will only grow the liberal agenda and hurt everyday people who are trying to take care of their families, survive the pandemic, and live their lives free of government control. All of Biden's socialist policies paired with his latest bailout of blue states disguised as a COVID-19 relief bill are just the start to a laundry list of liberal items. For a president who vowed to unify America at his inauguration, Biden is demonstrating his reversal on that promise with every action.
