Ortiz listed two primary reasons for the crisis.
First, the decision to overturn the Trump administration’s effective border control policies empowered illegal immigrants to flock to the border. Second, Ortiz claimed that the Biden administration’s policy to not impose any punishment on those illegally entering the country was a major contributing factor. It’s another indictment of how inept the administration has been about border security.
“In my experience, we have seen increases when there are no consequences,” said Ortiz. The comments were from a recorded deposition on July 28, Fox News reported.
Ortiz confirmed what Republicans have been claiming for months about the border crisis. Under President Donald Trump, there were consequences for crossing the border. However, those all disappeared when Biden took office. Once it became common knowledge that the administration would do little enforcement, immigrants headed to the border. It’s hard to believe that anyone in the Biden administration honestly would have expected anything different would happen. Biden has effectively changed the country from “the land of opportunity” to the “land of commit any crime you want in the name of opportunity.”
Ortiz’s deposition stemmed from a lawsuit by Ashley Moody, Florida’s attorney general, against the Department of Homeland Security. At one point in the recording, during an exchange with an attorney, Ortiz elaborated on the Biden administration’s border security failures. His comments should raise a huge red flag.
“So, if migrant populations believe that they’re going … there are not going to be consequences, more of them will come to the border. Is that what you’re saying?” questioned an attorney.
“There is an assumption that if migrant populations are told that there is a potential that they may be released that, yes, you can see increases,” Ortiz replied.
“So, it will increase at an exponential rate. Is that what is being suggested here?” an attorney asked.
“Well, I do think it will increase, yeah,” said Ortiz.
“Since President Biden was elected, does this document indicate that aliens illegally entering the United States perceive that they will be able to enter and remain in the United States?” the attorney questioned.
“Yes,” Ortiz said, confirming claims that congressional Republicans have been making since 2021.
It’s one thing to blame partisan politics for creating a narrative that a particular policy isn’t working. That’s the nature of Washington, D.C. But when the head of the Border Patrol, chosen by Secretary of Homeland Security Alejandro Mayorkas, testifies under oath that illegal immigrants feel safe entering the country, it’s pretty damning.
Pertaining to border security, Biden’s policies were supposed to be a compassionate contrast to his predecessor. But the only significant difference seems to be the influx of millions of people now entering the country illegally because they do not fear any significant consequences. Ortiz’s revelation is just the latest to show how utterly unprepared the Biden administration is to handle everything. And, given the enormous increase of illegal drugs smuggled across the border since Biden was inaugurated, one can legitimately argue that Biden has done nothing but make America dangerous again.
