Roger Stone predicts criminal indictment against Trump

Roger Stone said he expects former President Donald Trump to face charges in New York.

The longtime confidant to Trump made the prediction on Friday while speaking to Alex Jones, the founder of right-wing website Infowars, as investigators dig into the former president’s business empire, according to Salon.

“I would be shocked if they did not come forward with a fabricated indictment for bank fraud or tax fraud against the former president by Manhattan District Attorney Cyrus Vance,” Stone said.

Vance’s investigation, which includes a look into the Trump Organization’s finances and a successful legal battle to obtain Trump’s tax returns, recently dovetailed with a separate inquiry by New York Attorney General Letitia James. Both are Democrats.

Multiple reports on Tuesday said Vance convened a grand jury to consider evidence in the criminal investigation into Trump‘s business dealings and other matters. Trump decried the grand jury announcement and likened the proceedings to a “witch hunt,” an assertion echoed by Stone.

“If they want to go after the president on fabricated charges, then we will establish that this is a partisan witch hunt,” he said.

Stone, who has long been regarded as a “dirty trickster,” was pardoned by Trump in December of felony crimes arising from the Russia investigation, and he faces a lawsuit from the Justice Department claiming that he owes roughly $2 million in unpaid federal taxes. Stone reacted to the lawsuit by saying the Democrats were “weaponizing the Justice Department in violation of the rule of law.”

In speaking with Jones, the GOP strategist also made a connection to the Republican-led Arizona Senate’s 2020 election audit in Maricopa County, which has been criticized by election officials, including Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs.

“Don’t be surprised if the announcement comes at the exact time that we learn the truth about Maricopa County, Arizona,” he said, suggesting the audit will find fraud in the contest that Trump lost.
